First American flag raised in California.

John Cook, who resides with his family at No. 81 North School Street, is the possessor of an American flag of great historical interest, it being no less than the emblem raised by Captain John C. Fremont at Gavillan Peak, near Monterey, California, in March, 1846, in defiance of Mexican authority.
