Marcus Island.

Description

There has been no small amount of press comment on the mainland on Uncle Sam's right to Marcus Island which lies about 2800 miles northwest by west of the Hawaiian group. In 1889 Captain Rosehill planted the American flag there and claimed the land. In 1897 the Japanese Government took formal possession of it.
