Cultural evolution or cultural change? - The case of Polynesia.

Description

In this paper we suggest (1) that the methods and aims of the study of cultural evolution set traps for the scholar which are almost impossible to avoid, (2) that the study of culture change is more likely to yield acceptable generalizations than the study of evolution, and (3) that the latter cannot proceed without a basis of knowledge laid by the former.
